A great honour for Harry Pepl, more than twenty years after his death: at the gala of the Austrian Jazz Prize 2025 at Casino Velden on Lake Wörthersee, “Harry Pepl (tape) & The (Lonely) Single Swinger Band – Live” was awarded second place in the Best Album category – behind the Kenji Herbert Trio and ahead of the Tobias Meissl Trio. An academy of 149 experts selected the nominees from more than 170 entries, and a seven-member jury chose the winners.
That an estate production – Pepl’s guitar from tape, played around live by his former companions – should place so highly in a field of current releases is a particular joy: it shows how alive this music has remained.
