The day before the release, mica – music austria devotes a detailed feature to the new Popsch album: Michael Ternai describes how the band charge the sound of the 1980s with a snotty punk attitude – monotone drum machines meet glittering synthesisers – how activism and celebration flow into one another, and how the album tells of queer lives between excess, irony and self-reflection without ever wagging a moral finger.
The verdict is unambiguous: “Gay Propaganda” is “protest, party and pop in one” – an album that is loud, provocative and, above all, tremendous fun.
