On the day of the album launch at Vienna’s Chelsea, Kronen Zeitung runs an extensive portrait of Andi Lechner: under the title “Schwere Melancholie” (Heavy melancholy), Robert Fröwein talks with him about resonator guitars and vintage amplifiers, about deliberately analogue, imperfect work as a counterpoint to a culture of optimisation – and about the path from Burgau in Styria via a Viennese fish market stall (with Dostoyevsky read on breaks) to music. “For me, art has a cleansing quality,” Lechner says.
The piece traces the ambivalence of “Sorrows” – darkness repeatedly broken by bright, galloping moments, among them the duet “Ghost Romance” with The Zew – and lists the complete release tour from Vienna via Graz and Hollabrunn to Wiener Neustadt.
