Some albums begin with a concept. This one began with instruments: resonator guitars from the 1920s, whose metallic sound cannot be programmed – you have to listen to it. “Sorrows” grew around them, the fourth album by The Ghost And The Machine: twelve songs, 41 minutes and 29 seconds, released on 14 November 2025 on vinyl and digital.
Sorrows – deliberately in the plural. Sorrow shared, this album is convinced, need not sit still in self-pity. Andreas Lechner wrote the lyrics; the compositions were written together with Daniel Pepl, who sets synthesisers and organs against the folk foundation. Rolling Stone called the result “inescapable”.
That an album is also a collective work is shown by its guests: Leonie Schlager (The Zew) sings on “Ghost Romance”, and Lara Cortellini plays the singing saw.
