On the eve of the release of “Gay Propaganda”, the news magazine profil meets singers Alex Theiler and Andrea Mautner for a long interview. Franziska Schwarz talks with them about queer visibility as a political act, about origins and class, about the backlash against hard-won rights – and about why fifteen years passed between the debut “Top of the Pop:sch” and the new album. On the album title, Alex Theiler says: “If we are going to be accused of it anyway, then let us do it properly.”
The conversation also touches on how the community argues with itself, on why the word “lesbian” needs to be said out loud rather than disappearing behind “queer” – and on a politely declined Eurovision invitation: Popsch do not write songs to order.
